Anne Revere was one of the many people in film to be blacklisted.
She started her career on Broadway in 1931 and continued to act until her name appeared on the famous "Hollywood blacklist" in 1951. She did not appear in any film until 20 years later. The blacklist
had a profound effect on her and many others during that time.
What is Blacklisting?
Blacklisting is to be refused work under the idea that you
are a Communist. In Hollywood alone there were more than 200 supposed members of the Communist party. Some were
even graylisted, meaning that they were denied work on the basis of suspicion alone. Many wealthy actors were losing their
wealth by not getting work because of the blacklists.
Anne Revere was a direct descendant of Paul Revere.
